Meet Your Counselor
Julia Embry- Counselor
This is Ms. Embry's sixth year at Maria Carrillo High School. She received her Master’s Degree at Sonoma State University and holds an undergraduate degree in Social Work from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island.
She has previously worked with elementary, middle and high school students throughout Sonoma County and on the east coast where she grew up. When she is not helping students she loves spending time with her family, enjoying the great outdoors, traveling and reading.

Lauren Davis- Counselor and Student support (MTSS) Coordinator
Mrs. Davis is the newest counselor here at Carrillo. She worked for the last five years as a high school counselor in Santa Barbara. While Ms. Davis is new to our school, she obtained her Masters degree in Counseling from Sonoma State and fell in love with Sonoma County at that time. She obtained her Undergraduate degree in Global Studies from UC Santa Barbara.
In addition to her love for the excitement and enthusiasm that occurs on a high school campus, Mrs. Davis enjoys running, hiking, being creative and is a passionate lover of animals.

Jennifer Green- Counselor
This is Ms. Green's first year at Maria Carrillo. She has served as a counselor and coach for several years with non profits and maintains a private practice. She has enjoyed this work, since she was in high school where she was a peer counselor and elementary school mentor.
She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Master's degree in Counseling from Sonoma State University after relocating from Los Angeles. She enjoys an active life whether it is playing tag or gaga ball with her daughters, camping and foraging, hiking, bodyboarding, or learning how to surf.

Veronica Cordero- Counselor
This is Ms. Cordero’s second year as a School Counselor at Maria Carrillo High School. She has been with the Santa Rosa City School District for several years at the middle school level. She has previously worked for Sonoma Country Day School and Sonoma State’s Extended Education in the EXCEL program.
She graduated from Sonoma State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is currently finishing up her final year of graduate school at the University of San Francisco towards a Master’s Degree in School Counseling.
Ms. Cordero is very excited to be joining the counseling team as she is an MCHS alum. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and crafting at home.

ELLISA BEAMISH- Counselor
Mrs. Beamish has been a school counselor for the past ten years working at Analy High School in Sebastopol and at a high school in Tucson, Arizona.
This is her third year at Maria Carrillo and she is very happy to be part of the Counseling team! She received her undergraduate degree from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles and her graduate degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Prior to becoming a school counselor, Mrs. Beamish was a television news producer for eight years. In her free time, Mrs. Beamish enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, cheering on the UA Wildcats and Minnesota Vikings, hiking, reading, and exploring the Bay Area!

Kim Handel- College and Career Counselor
This is Ms. Handel's fifth year at Maria Carrillo, and she's excited to make the move to the College and Career Center.
Ms. Handel received her BA in History from UC Irvine and her MA in Counseling from San Francisco State University. She worked as a school counselor in Oakland for four years before coming to MCHS. She's happy to be back in Santa Rosa, where she grew up, and is looking forward to supporting students with their college and career goals.
