Ms. Julia Embry

This is Julia Embry's second year at MCHS. Julia received her Master’s Degree at Sonoma State University and holds an undergraduate degree in Social Work from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island.


She has previously worked with elementary, middle and high school students throughout Sonoma County and on the east coast where she grew up. When she is not helping students she loves spending time with her family, enjoying the great outdoors, traveling and reading.

Kim Handel

Kim Handel grew up in Santa Rosa and is excited to return to Sonoma County after living in San Francisco for several years. She received her BA in History from UC Irvine and her MA in counseling from San Francisco State University.


Kim worked as a school counselor in East Oakland for four years and loves talking to students about their college and career plans. In her free time Kim enjoys running in Annadel, spending time with friends and family and continuing to explore the Bay Area.

Ms. Nancy Allsup


Ms. Allsup has been a counselor for Santa Rosa City Schools for 19 years. This is her seventh year at Maria Carrillo High School. She received her BA from UC Berkeley and her MA from Sonoma State University.  


She lives with her husband and has a 23 year old son and 27 year old daughter. When not spending time with her family, she likes to ride Icelandic horses (not ponies…) around Spring Lake and other wonderful places in Sonoma County.

Ms. Amy Bartholow

Amy Bartholow worked in the Santa Rosa City School district at Elsie Allen High School and most recently at Healdsburg High School. Amy is also an adjunct instructor at the Santa Rosa Junior College.


Amy's undergraduate degree is from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and she earned her graduate degree at University of San Francisco. Last year, she completed her College Counseling Certificate through University of San Diego.
