What is the MCHS Association?

The Association is the primary parent organization here at Maria Carrillo High School. It is organized to give support to student directed programs, staff support, to encourage parent involvement and to develop the school community. It essentially functions like a PTA without the affiliation of a national organization.

We are a non-profit, tax exempt organization. Tax ID #68-0385019

Association goals:

  • To provide financial support for student activities and supplement academic classroom needs so that specific academic and extracurricular goals can be met. Requests are made by student organizations, administrative staff and teachers, and other umbrella organizations at the high school.
  • To provide parent volunteers to support programs and activities at Maria Carrillo High School.

Membership and Fundraising:

Association activities and events funded (a sampling):

  • Scholarship for the 2012-2013 School Year (Here is the application)
  • Sponsor senior poetry website and guest poets for senior English curriculum
  • Purchase freshman planners and sponsor orientation bar-b-que
  • Contribute financially to Puma Prensa and Yearbook;
  • Provide $1800 for STAR testing snacks and parent volunteers for 3 weeks to distribute snacks
  • Fund requests from classes and clubs for books, buses and registration money for events
  • Fund educational websites for students: CulturalGrams, CountryWatch, HotMath, TurnitIn and eLibrary

Newsletter:

This year the Association has begun publishing a monthly newsletter. The current eddition is available here. Past issues are available on the Newsletter Archive page. Please read the newsletter, share with friends, and let us know how we are doing and areas of interest we missed.

Volunteers Wanted!

In addition to your financial support, your time is very valuable to the school community. Here are ways parents can be involved

  • Serve on the board
  • Chaperone and donate food for dances and class trips
  • Assist in the library at lunch time;
  • Mail Puma Print
  • Available to organize fundraisers if/when needed

Other opportunities arise during the year so please read emails from the Association, fill out the volunteer form, and sign up at the school website at "eNotify" to receive Association updates

Meetings:

The Association holds 7-8 meetings during the school year on the 2nd Wednesday of the month starting at 7:00 pm in the library where interesting speakers come share their knowledge on topics relevant to high school parents (college advising, communication with high schoolers, job and volunteer opportunities for youth, etc). The principal and ASB President join us to share the latest news from their perspective of Carrillo happenings. Presentation materials are linked to the meeting below shortly after the presentations.
