About the Dance Department…

Welcome to the Dance Department at Maria Carrillo High School.  Each student is given the unique opportunity to experience and learn dance styles ranging from the novice to advanced level.  Come enjoy our bi-annual production in the Performing Arts Theatre on campus, in November (Advanced Dance Class) and in May (Advanced & Intermediate Classes).  Also, come see our annual Vision Series performance (Advanced Dance) at the Cowell Theatre at the Fort Mason Center, S.F. in March.  Please call 707.528.5798 for more information.

Biography

The dance program at MCHS has been under the direction of Rose Koch since 2003.  Ms. Koch began dancing in studios in her youth, and then later in college.  She began ballet at the Verne Fowler School of Dance & Theatre Arts in New Jersey, continued expanding her knowledge in the high school program at Monte Vista High School in Danville, CA, and continued dancing at UC Davis, where she received her B.S. in Plant Biology.  She trained under Nolan T’Sani and Linda Goodrich at Sacramento State University, where she earned her teaching credential and M.A. in Education with an emphasis on the Arts.  She continues to develop herself professionally, with a focus on dance curriculum, through various conferences and programs.

She thoroughly enjoys working with the students at MCHS and looks forward to continuing to expose students to the various forms of dance, and helping them to learn and appreciate dance, for its artistic, athletic, and aesthetic value.
